The next morning, after breakfast, we left for the residence of Aamil Saheb in a car with two of the students accompanying me. When we reached, Aamil Saheb warmly received us and assured me, “I have already discussed your case with two to three doctors from our community, and they will fully support your treatment. Don’t worry about expenses, they will ensure you receive the best care.”
From there, we went straight to the first doctor’s clinic, where I explained everything about my condition. After understanding my case, the doctor referred me to another specialist. So, we headed to the second clinic, where I was thoroughly examined. The doctor instructed me to come back the next morning without eating or drinking anything since they needed detailed X-rays of my throat and body using a large machine.
The following morning, we returned to the same clinic as instructed. This time, they took me to another facility with advanced machinery. I was asked to lie down, and they administered a liquid for me to swallow slowly while the machine rotated around me. This process took nearly an hour, during which about 50–60 X-rays were taken. Afterward, they asked me to come back the next day for further discussion.
When we returned the next day, the doctor had reviewed all my X-rays and reports and referred me to another specialist, likely a radiologist. There, they discussed my case with a group of other doctors. Each doctor had a different opinion about my condition.
One said, “It seems his vocal cords are damaged.”
Another added, “I think his vocal cords might be completely paralyzed.”
A third speculated, “Perhaps the vocal cords have weakened significantly.”
A fourth even suggested, “This could be a major underlying problem.”
Despite their differing opinions, no one could conclude. Eventually, they agreed to consult a renowned ENT specialist, Dr. MacNeil, who might offer a more definitive diagnosis and treatment.
The next day, with an appointment secured, we visited Dr. MacNeil’s clinic. I underwent a series of extensive tests, including an examination where they used a scope to look deep into my throat while administering some liquid. This session lasted about an hour. During the tests, Dr. MacNeil casually asked me about my cycling journey, which I responded to using gestures.
Finally, he delivered his verdict: “My friend, your vocal cords are completely damaged. Unfortunately, you will never be able to speak again.”
Hearing this, I was shattered. I broke down and started crying. I pleaded with the doctor, asking him to prescribe any medicine, no matter how expensive, as I would arrange for it. But the doctor gently explained, “There’s currently no medicine in medical science that can treat this condition. The best you can do is continue taking antibiotics to prevent further complications.”
We returned home, but my anxiety had intensified. I had come to America with the hope of getting treated, believing that advanced medical care here would cure me. However, even the top ENT specialist couldn’t help me. Medical science had failed in my case.
With no DAWA (treatment) left, I had only one hope—DUA. I immediately sat down and wrote a heartfelt letter to Burhanuddin Maula (R.A.), seeking his blessings and prayers.
