These four Pakistani students were from the Dawoodi Bohra community, studying in Houston. They had come to the supermarket for shopping, and our meeting happened suddenly. They recognized me by my topi (cap). While they asked me questions, I could understand everything but couldn’t respond due to my inability to speak. Initially, I tried to explain through actions, but when they didn’t understand, I started writing on paper to convey my situation. Once they understood my predicament, they kindly said, “Come stay with us at our rented bungalow. There’s plenty of space, and you can live with us. We’ll take you to Aamil Saheb and arrange for your treatment. There are many doctors in our community here, so you’ll receive proper care. Tomorrow morning, vacate the hostel, and we’ll come to pick you up.”

Hearing this, I felt a great relief and was overjoyed. I no longer had to worry about food and shelter, and I would get the treatment I needed. The supermarket was close to my hostel, so I brought them to see where I was staying. We all visited the hostel together, and after showing them around, they left, promising to return the next day. After they left, I informed the hostel manager about the new plan, and she was delighted for me. Then, I made some tea, sat on the bench outside, and sipped my tea, thinking that things would finally improve.

That night, after dinner, I prepared to sleep, lost in thoughts about the next day. I didn’t even realize when I fell asleep. In the morning, after getting ready, I went to the hall, made tea, and waited for the four students. Shortly after, they arrived with a car to pick me up. Once they arrived, I packed my belongings, took my bags downstairs, and after bidding farewell to the hostel manager, I went with them to their bungalow. The place was in a peaceful residential area, with a large hall and several rooms. That night, we went out in the car, and I thoroughly enjoyed the outing. All four were very cheerful and kind, and within three to four days, I became quite close to them.

These students were very helpful and studying in Houston. A few days later, they took me to meet Aamil Saheb, explained my situation, and he assured us, “Don’t worry. We have many prominent doctors here, and I will arrange for your treatment.” We had lunch with Aamil Saheb, who also gave me some money and said, “In Sha Allah, everything will be fine soon.” Afterward, we returned to the bungalow. I enjoyed living with the students, although during the day, I was alone as they attended university. I took care of my meals and tea on my own, and they never imposed any restrictions on me. Every night, they would take me out in the car, often visiting Galveston Island for walks along the beach and swimming.

Days passed somehow, but at night, I struggled to sleep as thoughts kept running through my mind—what would happen now? Would I ever be able to speak again? How would I return to India in this condition? How would I share my story with others? These worries kept me awake, and I often fell asleep only after being consumed by tension. Two days later, Aamil Saheb called and invited us over.
